Dame Game: Where the Girls Come to Play.

The Nottingham DJ scene is one of raw and uncharted talent - but an understood and often unmentioned industry truth is that female DJ’s are hugely underrepresented in UK nightlife.

In fact, it is estimated that less than 10% of recognised DJs are women, displaying a severe underrepresentation in the public eye.

Dame Game, a group founded in October of this year, seeks to change this. With funding from COL, the all-female group host, promote and DJ events in Nottingham - giving a platform for talented female artists to perform.

Their first event, held on the 17th November, had a phenomenal response. Held at the Secret Garden, the lineup order was Elo, Denno, Sammie Small, Mim, Gibbie, Leonié, Cookii Shakes, Lolly, Special B2B2B2B and G.Kanne. The music scoped from House and Garage to Rave Breakbeat and D&B, with each DJ was spinning their own favourite sounds - giving the crowd a mix of genres which flowed seamlessly between sets. The genuine passion from the artists reflected in the music and crowd’s energy.

COL is proud to have helped fund Dame Game’s first event, and potential future endeavours. Abi (Gibbie) and her team’s ability to have used the COL/YouthMusic funding to create a great night, while tackling the huge female-underrepresentation within the music industry is what COL stands behind.
